Galliford Try wins Yorkshire school contract

Galliford Try has won a contract to deliver a special needs and disability (SEND) school in Scarborough.

The housebuilder’s North East and Yorkshire business has been appointed to deliver the Woodlands Academy which will be open to children aged three to 16.

The two-storey building will include therapy areas, calm rooms and a focus on minimising the possibility of overstimulation through design.

Created as part of the School Rebuilding Programme, a government scheme, Woodlands Academy will also be designed to be net-zero carbon in operation.

This will include solar panels, a green roof and several other energy efficient features. Galliford Try has claimed it will deliver a 23% biodiversity gain, over double the 10% statutory requirement.

“Students and teachers at Woodlands Academy deserve a school that effectively meets their needs and, our business has a wealth of experience in delivering high-quality SEND facilities across the country,” Cliff Wheatley, managing director for Galliford Try Building North East and Yorkshire.

“We look forward to working with all the stakeholders involved to deliver the facilities the staff and students deserve.”
